Proverbs 27: 2

It is the glory of God is to conceal things,

But the glory of kings is to search things out.

The king’s unique undertaking was to “be well on top of the affairs of state, to keep a close eye on how his ministers are carrying out their duties, and to keep himself well-informed about the circumstances of the common people” (Aitken, 216 - quoted in Waltke).

When a case came before him, the ruler was to judge, which entailed probing, discerning, separating fact from half-truths. His was not to hear one side of the case and make a decision; rather he was to decide after searching out the matter from all angles.

Not everything lies on the surface. In fact, the precious things are normally dug out.

So in the presence of the Concealing God we are not consigned to passivity. If we are not going to uncover all mysteries, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to be gained through exploration. God didn’t intend for things to just come to us, whether in self-governance, in family management, in subduing the earth.

You are living as you are supposed, as you, under God, take things into your hands. You are fully human when you don’t let life just come to you, but instead plan and explore and create. Don’t just sit there, gain knowledge!

And in all your knowing, find out what pleases the Lord.

Bible Reading: Romans 15: 1-13 (again)

Don’t take infighting lightly! We can’t let “unity” can’t be hijacked by the world and then minimized away by the church. Call up your Christian enemies and fall on your sword! Give way! Blessed are you peacemakers!
